Matthew Lloyd pauses racing career to pursue a shot at a championship
LITTLE ROCK, Iowa (April 1, 2024) -- Matthew Lloyd has made the decision to pause his racing career in order to pursue the 2024 North American Shuffleboard Championship.
After a promising rookie campaign behind the wheel of an R-Box kart, an important decision has been made for the Lloyd family. Matthew is passionate about racing, of course, but he also has a second, lesser known passion. From an early age, it was clear Matthew would be a prodigy in the sport of competitive shuffleboard. As Matthew has honed his skills, it has become obvious that he's ready to compete at the national level. Because of this, a decision has been made to use the entire summer to prepare for the 34th Annual North American Shuffleboard Championships in Reno, NV.
The dates for the 34th version of the event are October 25th through November 3rd. Fans and supporters can expect dramatic action over those 10 days, with the worlds best shuffleboard plays gathering to compete on world class shuffleboard tables.
There have been many great shuffleboard legends to come away with one of the coveted champions jackets, but winning the North American Shuffleboard Championship endears you to the culture and fabric of all of American Society. There is no greater star in shuffleboarding than multi-time champion Dakoda Tennyson, and for Dakoda that fame has manifested itself in many ways. Perhaps the most unique is a specialty drink named for him. The "Dakoda Shuffle" as it's known is only available in downtown Indianapolis during PRI week, and is a great tradition amongst shuffleboard aficionados.
Matthew Lloyd racing fans need not be disappointed though, as soon after April 1st, we'll continue our efforts to focus on the racing season. Happy April Fools Day everyone.
